Durante el fin de semana, el presidente electo, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, sostuvo una reunión privada en un hotel de la zona arqueológica de Palenque, Chiapas, con los gobernadores del sureste en funciones y electos, Manuel Velasco y Rutilio Escandón (Chiapas), Arturo Nuñez y Adán Augusto López (Tabasco), Rolando Zapata Villa y Mauricio Vila (Yucatán), Carlos Joaquín González (Quintana Roo) y Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas (Campeche), para hablar acerca del Tren Maya, mismo que esta por iniciarse.

López Obrador, indicó que para el año 2019 el proyecto arrancará con un presupuesto de 16 mil millones de pesos, iniciando por Chiapas y Tabasco; la obra que estará a lo largo de mil 500 metros iniciando en Palenque y terminando en Cancún, atravesará por 17 estaciones, ubicadas en zonas turísticas, por lo que se prevé pueda generar más de 20 mil empleos; además destacó que el Tren no provocará daño al medio ambiente, situación que muchos ambientalistas han expuesto.
