De acuerdo a información del periodistas, Salvador García Soto, del periódico El Universal, indicó que el presidente, Enrique Peña Nieto y la primera dama, Angélica Rivera, han iniciado los trámites de divorcio pocos meses antes de que concluya el sexenio, de acuerdo a la información, la relación ya se había fracturado con anterioridad, sin embargo, ambos llegaron a una negociación en donde continuarían juntos para no dañar la imagen del presidente.

El periodista, indica que Angélica Rivera, ya no se encuentra viviendo en México desde hace algún tiempo, por lo menos desde hace dos años; según informa García Soto, la actriz vive en Miami y el acuerdo que tenía con Peña Nieto, era que mediante el acuerdo, Rivera asistiera a eventos públicos, siempre y cuando se le informara con tiempo; también asegura, que el divorcio no era conveniente, ya que mediante encuestas que se realizaron, era mal visto por la sociedad, situación que afectaría aún más el presidente.
