Durante la instalación, el senador Eruviel Ávila destacó que tiene como objetivo principal “potenciar al sector marítimo nacional, tanto a la Secretaría Marina de México, como la Marina de Mercado“; además de que se fomentará el desarrollo de los puertos, aprovechando la ubicación geográfica del país; por su parte, el Presidente del Senado, Martí Batres, felicitó a Villegas Ávila, por presidir la comisión y por ser un puente importante de comunicación entre el Senado y la Secretaría de Marina; además de ser los primeros en trabajar en la comisión que se les asignó e instalarla de manera rápida.
